Moving permanently?

If you are permanently moving abroad (for more than 12 months), you must inform us as soon as possible. Once you do, we will give you six months’ notice to close your account, so you have time to set up alternative banking arrangements.

What if I’m only abroad temporarily?

If you’re going abroad for less than 12 months, your account can remain open. However, please still let us know, especially if your plans change while you're away.

What if I have dual residency?

If you have dual residency, and one of your homes is in the UK, you can keep your account.
Please also inform us if you are tax resident in more than one country, as we must record this on our systems. In both cases, it’s important that you tell us directly.

What happens if I have an overdraft and I plan to move abroad?

If you have an overdraft and inform us that you are moving abroad:

  • We’ll give you six months’ notice to close your account.
  • If you have an overdraft, your overdraft limit will be cancelled at closure and you must repay any outstanding balance by the closure date.
  • If you need more time to repay, we may agree to an extended repayment period in line with our forbearance process.

Please make sure to contact us as early as possible if you have an overdraft and are planning to move abroad.
