We understand that managing your spending and well-being is important. That’s why we’ve introduced a Gambling Block feature in your debit card. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is the Gambling Block?
The Gambling Block is a feature that helps you take control by blocking transactions made to gambling-related merchants through your debit card. When it’s turned on, we’ll automatically decline any card transaction made with gambling businesses.
What happens when I turn the Gambling Block ON?
Once you enable the Gambling Block, we’ll immediately start declining card payments made to merchants that classify their transactions under the following gambling-related Merchant Category Codes (MCCs):
- 7995 – Betting (including internet gambling)
- 7800 – Government-Owned Lotteries
- 7801 – Government-Licensed Casinos (Online)
- 7802 – Government-Licensed Horse/Dog Racing
Transactions using these codes will be blocked right away.
How to enable and disable Gambling Block?
To turn the Gambling Block on:
- Enter your Kroo app and tap on the ‘Manage your card’ option (the card icon in the top right corner of the screen).
- Select the ‘Gambling block’ option.
- Toggle the ‘Turn on gambling block’ switch to enable the block.
You can turn it off anytime by sliding the ‘Gambling block’ switch again, but note that we’ve added a safeguard to help you stay in control. When you turn the block off:
- A 48-hour cool-off period will begin. This delay gives you time to reflect before the restriction is removed.
- After this period ends, the block will automatically be lifted, and gambling-related transactions will no longer be declined.
If you change your mind during the 48-hour cool-off period, you can cancel the request to turn off the block by selecting the ‘Cancel’ option in the same section of the app. Once cancelled, the Gambling Block stays in place.
Can I enable the Gambling Block again after turning it off?
Absolutely. You can turn the Gambling Block back on at any time, and it will take effect immediately, blocking future gambling transactions from that moment forward.
I made a gambling transaction and it wasn’t blocked. Why?
There are a few reasons this can happen:
- The merchant did not classify the transaction under a gambling-related MCC (e.g., 7995, 7800, 7801, 7802).
- You made the payment via a bank transfer, which the Gambling Block does not cover – it only works on card payments.
Please remember that we rely on merchant classification codes to identify gambling transactions, and unfortunately, not all merchants use the correct codes.
